HEALTH Journal published by Gulf Medical College completes nine years
‘Health Journal’ published by the Gulf Medical College Ajman has completed nine years of its presence in the UAE and Middle East. Only publication of its kind, printed in English and Arabic (back to back) was started in April 1999 as part of the college’s commitment to Informative Medical Journalism. What started as a 28-page issue grew up to become a well-recognized health magazine with 100 pages in its present format. As the most acclaimed health magazine in the region, HEALTH Journal enjoys a wide readership in over 42 countries. In view of the success of this bimonthly publication, the college intends to make it monthly very soon.
The magazine carries a wide range of articles on a variety of topics. The aim of the magazine is to highlight locally relevant issues apart from focusing on wellness and lifestyle articles. The HEALTH magazine is in tie-up with renowned institutions like Mayo Clinic, USA and Johns Hopkins, USA, Royal Australian College for General Practitioners, Australia and Ministry of Health UAE who contribute articles to this magazine regularly. The HEALTH Journal has permission from BMJ, JAMA and WHO EMRO Journal to reproduce articles published in such respected journals from time to time.
The Conference Secretariat looks forward to continued support from the medical fraternity and equally from the companies to participate in this magazine and promote it in a big way, the press release said. Many more new features are being added to this magazine in the coming issues. Distribution is targeted at general practitioners, physicians, specialists, directors & administrators in government/corporate/teaching hospitals, product/marketing managers of pharma, medical equipment & healthcare companies and their agents/distributors in the UAE, Middle East and globally. Since it carries general health awareness articles, it also enjoys a substantial readership amongst the general public. In short, the magazine is a good interactive medium and a useful source for health information to one and all.
Medicine and Health sciences have witnessed unprecedented progress in recent years. It therefore behooves the health professionals to continually upgrade their skills and keep in touch with their professions. Gulf Medical College Ajman is one of the first institutions to have set up a Conference Secretariat to plan and implement a series of Symposia, Seminars and Conferences. Under the chairmanship of the President of the College, the secretariat acts as an apex body responsible for identifying relevant topics and organizing various National, Regional and International conferences from time to time. The main aim of organizing such regular events is to create a platform for health care professionals and scientists to address various impending health issues facing the world in general and the Gulf countries in particular. This will also enhance contact amongst the students, faculty and practicing doctors and facilitate professional interaction in a continuing learning experience.
The Conference Secretariat has organized over seventy conferences, seminars and symposia in the last seven years. Feedback from delegates and partner institutions has encouraged us to organize more programs in the future. Six major conferences are planned for the coming year, starting January 2008, including joint events with Harvard medical School Dubai Centre, Cairo University, Egypt and leading institutions from USA UK and India. “The Conference secretariat is recognized as one of the proactive bodies in the country organizing CME/CPD programs”.
Apart from organizing such programs the conference secretariat is actively involved in holding health camps, awareness programs at the college and GMC Hospitals in Ajman and Fujairah.
The Conference Secretariat thanks the media and journalists for their unstinted cooperation in giving a good coverage of various activities organized by the Conference Secretariat.
