SPEECH BY MS. SRIDEVI BALAJI, STUDENT OF THE SHORT TERM CERTIFICATE COURSE ON NUTRITION FOR SPORTS & HUMAN PERFORMANCE.

Honorable Chief Guest His Excellency Dr. Sheikh Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman, Ruler’s Court, Ajman, U.A.E., respected Founder President of Gulf Medical University Mr. Thumbay Moideen and other distinguished guests, A very good morning to you all.

My name is Sridevi Balaji, a student of the short term certificate course in Nutrition for Sports and Human Performance.  First and foremost I would like to thank my faculty members for giving me this opportunity to express my thoughts from a student’s point of view.

I got to know about this course through the ‘Gulf  News’.  The duration of the course was for 12 weeks and classes were conducted on Thursdays in the afternoon for our convenience.  The course content and notes were selected and prepared in such a way that even those who are not in the field of nutrition  could understand the subject.  It was taught very methodically by experts from the respective fields giving us practical information about nutrition and how it is important for sportsmen and sportswomen to perform well.

There were periodical assessments to know our strengths and weaknesses which helped us greatly to keep track with different subjects.  Sessions were interactive and with friendly and approachable lecturers it made us share our ideas without any hesitation.

At the end of this course we were able to plan out a diet regime for normal healthy individual involved in sports activities and also those requiring special attention like diabetics.  There are a lot of myths when it comes to food.  Being a dietician by profession I have gathered a lot of valuable information pertaining to sports nutrition.    It has been very helpful to me in guiding my patients to follow the right ways of eating while exercising and during sports events.

Last but not the least it has been a wonderful experience to be a part of Gulf Medical University and I would like to thank all my lecturers Dr. Nisha, Dr. Gomathi, Mrs. Fahmida, Mrs. Sangeetha, Dr. Shatha and Mr. Kristopher for giving us their valuable time and efforts to enable us complete this course successfully .

Also I don’t wish to miss this opportunity to mention that I have made two new friends Ms. Fatimah and Ms. Fauzia through this course.  I’d would like to thank my husband who has encouraged and supported me throughout the course.  In the end, I hope and pray many more would enroll for the different existing courses and the new courses to be introduced soon and benefit immensely as I have from this great  institution.

Thank you.
