Symposium on Management of Pain held at Gulf Medical College Ajman

Pain is the exquisite language of our body; it protects us, preserves us, and makes repair, regeneration and growth possible” said Prof. S. Rangaswami, Dean, Gulf Medical College Ajman.

In his opening remarks at the Symposium on Management of Pain, organized by the College of Physiotherapy, Gulf Medical College Ajman, on the 16th May 2002,Dr. Rangaswami said that Pain is an intensely private and personal experience. Most of us resent pain and although attempts have been made to measure and document pain, it can never be understood entirely, except by the sufferer, he added. Leading experts from all over the UAE deliberated on various aspectsrelated to the Management of Pain.

 

Over 175 medical practitioners and other health professionals from all parts of U.A.E participated in the symposium. Pain Mechanism and Assessment, Headache-Migraine, Cancer Pain, Preoperative Pain, usculoskeletal Pain, Pharmacotherapy, Surgical Management of Pain, Physiotherapy in Management of Pain, Alternative Therapies in pain Management and Gift of Pain were some of the topics that were addressed during the symposium. Leading speakers from U.A.E like Dr. Tim Cooper, Dr. Javaid Iqbal, Dr. Anibal Prentice, Dr. Abhay Dandavate, Dr. Prabhaker Shetty, Dr. Hossein Nouri, Dr. A.H.M.G. Nabi spoke on the above topics, apart from Dr. Mohamed Arifulla, Mr. Vinod Abraham and Dr. Rangaswami from the Gulf Medical College Ajman.

 

The Conference Secretariat at the Gulf Medical College Ajman is constantly engaged in organizing such scientific events at regular intervals for the benefit of the physicians and other healthcare professionals in the region. Gulf Medical College is in its fourth academic year and the admissions for the next batch of students, due to begin in September this year, are in progress.

 

A scientific exhibition was held alongside the symposium. Abbott Laboratories and Union National Bank sponsored the symposium.
