Royal College of Surgeons Team Visits
High ranking officials headed by Dr. Michael Horgan, Vice President, Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland, visited the Gulf Medical College Ajman yesterday. The officials discussed various issues relating to tie-up s between the two institutions.“We are quite excited with the outcome of our deliberations and we look forward to many opportunities opening for us”, said Mr. Thumbay Moideen, President of GMCA. Initially, it was agreed upon to organize scientific events at the Gulf Medical College Ajman in the coming months. Conferences on various topics will be jointly organized in association with the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. This would be of great benefit to the local medical fraternity, as they get to listen to some of the experts from various specialties. At the same time RCS, Ireland can also look forward to a strong presence in the UAE, he added.
Experts from the Royal College of Surgeons will be contributing articles to the GMC Health Journal. This arrangement again would be of great interest to our readers, said Prof. Rangaswami, Dean of the college. We have discussed various academic issues, which would take shape in the months to come. I am sure that sharing expertise of specialists from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland will be a big advantage for our students as well as faculty, he added. He thanked Dr. Mohamed Alamuddin, who was instrumental in arranging this visit.
Later the team members had an audience with His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman. They also met His Excellency Sheikh Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman, Ruler’s Court Ajman and Minister for Supreme Council Affairs. The team explained about their activities and their interest to have tie-up with renowned institutions, such as Gulf Medical College to enhance medical education, CME programmes and other academic activities in the country.
Dr. Horgan has expressed his happiness and appreciated the efforts of the management, which he said was in the right direction and of high standards. Gulf Medical College Ajman is putting in constant efforts to have tie up with reputed institutions for the benefit of the students. I feel that our efforts will bear good results in the very near future, as our first batch of students embark on their internship and then to pursue their post graduate programmes, concluded Mr. Moideen.
