Nursing Department, GMC Hospital hosts Seminar on Pediatric Emergencies

A Seminar on Pediatric Emergencies was recently held by the Department of Nursing, GMC Hospital – Ajman.

Doctors from the Department of Pediatrics, GMC Hospital discussed various issues related to emergencies in pediatric cases.

Neonatal Resuscitation, Management of Febrile Convulsions, and Bronchial Asthma in children are some of the important topics that were covered during the seminar.

Prof. Mahmoud Shamseldeen, Head of the Department of Pediatrics gave an introductory talk on the topic. Dr. Jenny John, Dr. Ignatius Edwin D’Souza, Dr. Maha Hassan spoke on the relevant topics and later answered questions from the delegates.

The main objective of the seminar was to enable the delegates to identify the risk for neonatal resuscitation, describe the steps and time frame for support of ventilation and subsequent re-evaluation leading to a decision to begin chest compressions, review the diagnosis and management of febrile convulsions, give an update in preventive and therapeutic management  in children  with febrile convulsions, describe and identify Endocrine Emergencies,illustrate and manage dehydration in pediatric patients.

Over 50 nurses and doctors attended the seminar which was accredited by the Ministry of Health for 5 CME hrs.
