NEW BATCH OF M.B.B.S, D.M.D,B.P.T, PHARM D STUDENTS CEREMONIOUSLY INITIATED INTO THE HEALTHCARE PROFESSION AT GULF MEDICAL UNIVERSITY, AJMAN – U.A.E.

Gulf Medical University proudly announces the WHITE COAT CEREMONY held at the University Campus in Ajman, on the 30th September 2010 at 10 A.M

The ceremony was honored by the presence of the Chief Guest, H.E. Mr. Sanjay Verma, Consul General of India, Consulate of Dubai, U.A.E along with H.E. Dr. Bujar Osmani, Minister of Health, Republic of Macedonia and Prof. Saleh S. El-Qaderi, Secretary General, Jordan Medical Council & Professor of Medical Education, Amman / Jordan.

H.E. Mr. Sanjay Verma in his eloquent speech emphasized on the role of integrity, perseverance and compassion which are vital and requisite qualities for the medical students during the period of their studies in the University and later in their future career. He also stressed on the fact that GMU imparts medical education globally to students from around 51 nationalities, the students should adapt to the multi-linguistic culture and healthy environment prevalent in the GMU campus which would help them to serve different strata of patients in the society in their career.

The President of Gulf Medical University, Mr. Thumbay Moideen and the faculty members of the University welcomed a total of 130 Students newly admitted to the MBBS, BPT, DMD and PHARM D Programs and conferred the “White Coats” as a symbol of their entry into their chosen professions.

Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, Provost of the Gulf Medical University delivered the welcome address to the dignitaries, parents, medical students and staff of the University while releasing the VISION 2020 document of the University. Prof. Gita Ashok Raj also announced the start of several non- degree programs under the Centre of Continuing Education & Community Outreach (COCE & CO) for the year 2010-2011.

The White Coat Ceremony, a highlight of the orientation process, signifies the student’s commitment to the healthcare profession and its responsibilities and obligations. New students cloaked in their first white coats, collectively recited the GMU Honor Code. They assumed the mantle of their profession in a meaningful ritual before an audience of mentors, family and friends. The ceremony is designed to impress upon the first-year students, the significance and symbolism of the white coat.
