New Batch Of M.B.B.S, D.M.D, B.P.T, Pharm D Students Ceremoniously Initiated into The Healthcare Profession at Gulf Medical University, Ajman – U.A.E.

Gulf Medical University proudly announces the WHITE COAT CEREMONY, 2011 held at the University Campus in Ajman, on the 22nd September 2011.

The ceremony was honored by the presence of the Chief Guest Dr. Wyatt R. Hume, Provost – UAE University, Al Ain, U.A.E along with H.E. Sheikh Dr. Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman – Ruler’s Court, Ajman.

Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, Provost of the Gulf Medical University delivered the welcome address to the visiting dignitaries, the Founder President, parents, medical students, faculty and staff of the University.

While delivering his inspirational speech, Dr. Wyatt R. Hume emphasized on the importance of the White Coat Ceremony and congratulated the new batch of students for celebrating the important event in a solemn and yet in such a joyful way. He stressed on the students that it is extremely important to care for the patients, families and the community, for while caring the patients they will be doing God’s work. He also added that their primary motivation should be caring for the patients and not the money. Finally, he concluded by advising the students to embrace science as hard as they can – so that they would have the ability to question, to evaluate, to advance and use it to the fullest for serving the mankind.

The Founder President of Gulf Medical University, Mr. Thumbay Moideen and the faculty members of the University welcomed a total of 147 students newly admitted to the MBBS, BPT, DMD and PHARM D Programs and conferred the “White Coats” as a symbol of their entry into their chosen professions.

The White Coat Ceremony, a highlight of the orientation process, signifies the student’s commitment to the healthcare profession and its responsibilities and obligations. New students cloaked in their first white coats, collectively recited the GMU Honor Code. They assumed the mantle of their profession in a meaningful ritual before an audience of mentors, family and friends. The ceremony is designed to impress upon the first-year students, the significance and symbolism of the white coat.

As a gesture of goodwill H.E. Sheikh Dr. Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi together with Mr. Thumbay- Moideen presented a special memento to Dr. Wyatt R. Hume.
