LEADING PHYSIOTHERAPISTS MEET AT GMCA TO DISCUSS MANAGEMENT OF FOOT DISORDERS

BPT Program – Gulf Medical College Ajman organized a Seminar on Role of Physiotherapy and Allied Therapeutics in the Management of Foot Disorders on the 5th of March 2003 at the GMC Hospital and Research Centre Ajman, between 2pm and 5pm in the lecture hall at the hospital. Leading experts from the field of physiotherapy and orthopedics, like Dr. Mohanasundaram, Orthopedic Surgeon, GMC Hospital Ajman, Ms. Jo-Ann Scott, Physiotherapist from Orthosports Centre, Ms. Catherine Gray, Podiatirst from Dubai Physiotherapy Clinic, Dr. Ravindran, Orthopedic Surgeon, General Medical Centre, Abu Dhabi and Dr. S. Debroy delivered talks at the seminar. Important aspects like an Insight into foot disorders, Role of physiotherapy in foot disorders, Podiatry in foot disorders, Selection and application of footwear and Ozone therapy and management of diabetic foot were discussed. The seminar was sponsored by Dr. Scholl’s (represented by Modern Pharmaceuticals Company). Al Shafaf Healthcare also participated in the seminar.

Bachelor of Physiotherapy program was started with an aim to provide high quality teaching and training to aspiring students from the entire region, informed Mr. Thumbay Moideen, President, GMCA. Students from many countries are attracted to our program. The academic ambience, infrastructure and excellent teachers are contributing factors for the success of this program, added Mr. Moideen. Third year students are trained at our GMC Hospital & Research Centre. The physiotherapy department is well equipped and many patients are being treated, informed the president.

Explaining about the program, Mr. Vinod Abraham, Vice-Principal of the BPT Program, GMCA, said that it is one of the leading centres for students to pursue their profession in Physiotherapy. The physiotherapy department is equipped with some of the most modern equipments to train the students. Many more such scientific events are planned for the coming months. The next programme will be on Sports Medicine, which will be held in April/May this year he informed, adding that the conference secretariat will be announcing the details about the forthcoming programmes soon.
