Leading international experts in healthcare education laud the efforts of Gulf Medical College
Experts in medical education from leading universities from UAE, India, Pakistan, Australia, Iran and Egypt met at the Gulf Medical College to discuss various academic issues, during the Academic Council meeting held on the 25 th of November 2006.
Academic Council meets every year to audit the academic programs of the college. It gives transparency to our academic system and enhances the educational standards based on the suggestions of the members, informed Prof. S. Rangaswami.
Explaining about the importance and role of the Academic council, Prof. Rangaswami mentioned that the council comprises of experts from all over the world and has the authority to approve and recommend for ratification to the Executive Committee, matters concerning educational, research and service programs of the Gulf Medical College. The council approves and recommends for ratification to the Executive Committee all terminal examination results, which contribute marks towards the award of degrees. It makes recommendations to the Executive Committee for the award of degrees within the Gulf Medical College. The Committee approves with or without modifications the recommendations of the College council regarding the curriculum, schemes of assessment and examination regulations and deals with any other matters referred to it by the Executive Committee. The Academic Council is re-constituted once in three years and meets once every year.
Speaking at the council meeting all the members unanimously approved that the college must attain university status in the next two years time by introducing other programs like nursing, pharmacy and dentistry. The college deserves to become a university owing to the high quality education that imparts, they opined.
