Gulf Medical University Observes World Kidney Day

The students of Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, the leading private medical university in the UAE owned and run by Thumbay Group, marked World Kidney Day with a variety of programs on 9th March 2016. The event is the latest in the series of ‘World Health Days’ conducted by the 1st year MBBS students of GMU, as their academic mini-project.

The students conducted activities stressing the importance of following a healthy lifestyle and the need to have regular checkups. They played games to spread awareness on the importance of having healthy kidneys. The students also conducted presentations detailing the nature of and issues associated with kidney stones, kidney cancer, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney diseases, etc. They emphasized the lesser-known fact that most kidney diseases could be prevented by acting early. The event was attended by the faculty members and students of GMU.

World Kidney Day (WKD) is an annual global awareness and education event, held on the second Thursday of March. Every year, several local, national and international events are organized by kidney charities, healthcare professionals, patient groups and individuals who want to make a difference.
