Grand Inaugural Function of Gulf Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Ajman Held On 17th October 2002

Gulf Medical College Hospital & Research Centre which is a part of the Gulf Medical College, Ajman was inaugurated on the 17th of October 2002 by H.H. Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, UAE. The Gulf Medical College Hospital & Research Centre in Ajman, UAE is the first University Hospital in the U.A.E. with a capacity of 150 beds housed with ultra modern facilities. The Women’s Health Centre, Hi-Tech Laboratory, Modern ICU & CCU facilities, 24 Hours Pharmacy, Modern Digital Imaging, On Call Doctor Service, Fertility Centre, Emergency, Frequent Visits from various doctors around the globe are some of the various features and services offered by the hospital.In an official communiqué issued by the hospital management, Mr. Thumbay Moideen, President of GMCA explained the need for setting up such a hospital in Ajman. “We would like to cater to all sections of the society at an affordable cost” he added. The hospital will have many features like doctor on call, free consultation for the first week starting from 25th October 2002 upto 31st October 2002 and free consultation once a week thereafter for the next six months (November 2002 to April 2003).

Dr. T.K. Parthasarathy, Vice President – Academics said “the hospital would provide a unique opportunity to the patients as well as the medical students of our college”. Apart from providing treatment to all sections of the society, the hospital will actively involve in research in many areas. “We are in the process of identifying locally relevant issues and will co-operate with the Ministry of Health, UAE in complementing their efforts in solving certain impending health issues in the country” he added. As part of our VISION 2010 program, we are working towards starting other para-medical programs for the first time in this country, he said.

GMCHRC will be the first ever teaching hospital too, said Dr. Rangaswami, Dean and Director of the hospital. “Our hospital has excellent infrastructure and is supported by highly qualified doctors” he added. The management is keen on making this hospital a referral centre for many specialties in the near future. The doctors who have been specially handpiced to provide expert services carry a lot of experience with them in their respective specialties. It will be very beneficial for the patients.

Explaining the salient feature, Dr. Rangaswami said “we have given a special focus on Women’s Health in our hospital. Other facilities would include round the clock pharmacy, frequent visits by various internationally renowned experts from different specialties and for the benefit of the citizens of the UAE.
