GMC Hospital opens its new facility in Malawi, Africa

The renowned GMC Hospitals, based in Ajman, Fujairah and Dubai have opened their new facility in Blantyre City, Malawi, Africa.

The ultra modern hospital was inaugurated on the 28th of April 2010 by Mr. Chris Kang’ombe, Principal Secretary for Health, Government of Malawi in the presence of Mr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of GMC hospitals and Gulf Medical University Ajman, United Arab Emirates. This is our foray into African Continent and we wish to expand our facilities into other countries like Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola and Mauritius in the years to come, said Mr. Moideen in his welcome address. He also added that this is a small step towards major developments in Africa that can be witnessed in the next 2 to 3 years.

In his inaugural address the Chief Guest Mr. Chris Kang’ombe lauded the efforts of GMC Hospital management and its team, supported by locally based Shifa Medical Services in setting up of a modern medical facility for the benefit of people of Malawi. “This carries a great significance in the healthcare facilities presently available in Malawi” he said. He also praised GMC hospital for setting up ‘Telemedicine Facility’ for the first time in the country (Malawi). I am sure that many patients will benefit from such facilities. This will also help in the country in saving Forex, as we spend a lot of money on sending our patients abroad for medical treatment.

Mr. Faisal Kassam, CEO of Shifa Medical Services, Malawi addressed the gathering and said that it took four years of hard work and planning to make this project a reality. He said that the people as well as the government of Malawi will stand to gain from this medical facility and will save a lot of time and money in providing affordable and accessible medical services to people of Malawi.

The inaugural function of the hospital was followed by a Seminar on Combating Communicable Diseases, which was addressed by experts from World Health Organization and United Nations team from Malawi. the event was attended by over 500 delegates from all over Malawi.
