College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University reaches out to elderly people in Old Age Homes of Ajman & Sharjah.
Recent research has proved that negligence of oral and dental health directly leads to diseases like coronary heart disease, respiratory disease, Diabetes etc. Data on oral health and dental needs for the elderly people of U.A.E. is scarcely available. However, this data is very essential for the planning and evaluation of the healthcare programs for the elderly people. In line with the Gulf Medical University’s Vision statement to be an integral part of the community through continuous and enhanced community services, Dr. Maha Youssef Kamal Sadek, Associate Professor and Consultant of Prosthodontics, Associate Dean of the College of Dentistry, GMU made multiple visits to the old age homes in Sharjah and Ajman.
Comprehensive dental and oral examinations were carried out for the elderly people, to assess their oral health condition and dental needs. More than 40 elderly nationals benefitted from the visits, while they were updated with the diagnosed problem and the recommended dental treatment plan.
“This is a challenging age group and the numbers are fast increasing each day. Therefore, timely instructions on oral hygiene and dental treatment is vital for the prevention of oral and dental diseases in future” asserted Dr. Maha Youssef Kamal Sadek.
The management of the Old Age Homes of Sharjah and Ajman were thankful to Dr. Maha Youssef Kamal Sadek and the assisting members from the College of Dentistry, GMU for regularly rendering moral and selfless service to the deserving elderly people.
