American Heart Association accredited course on Heart Saver First Aid, CPR and AED
The Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (CASH) at Gulf Medical University, Ajman recently completed training of 54 Health and Safety Officers and Emergency Medics from Lamprell Energy Ltd. for the American Heart Association (AHA) accredited course on Heart Saver First Aid (HSFA), CPR and AED. This training entitles them to a 2-year internationally recognized HSFA Provider Card from AHA. The training sessions were conducted over a span of 2 months in small batches to maintain optimum instructor-candidate ratio.
Facilitated by Dr.Erum Khan, Mr. Issel Grandt D. Humilde and Mr.Abi Sayed, Life Support Instructors at CASH, the course highlighted the critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives; management of bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies; and focused on adult CPR, child CPR and AED use.

Professor Manda Venkatramana, Director of CASH and Consultant Surgeon at GMC Hospital said that ‘CASH plans to conduct more high quality sessions in the future’ and further elaborated that ‘the mission of CASH is to create a safe, controlled and non-threatening environment for health professionals to teach, train and assess the cognitive, psychomotor and affective skills ensuring high quality patient care and safety using various simulation technologies.’
CASH is designed as a virtual hospital setting located within GMU premises and is a multidisciplinary educational facility that provides high-tech simulated set-up for clinical and communication skills teaching / learning and training for doctors, nurses, other health professionals and lay public as well.
CASH is an AHA accredited site and regularly conducts basic and advanced AHA accredited Life Support and first aid training courses such as Heart Saver First Aid CPR AED Course, BLS and ACLS.
