THE NEW BATCH OF STUDENTS WERE INITIATED INTO THE HEALTHCARE PROFESSION DURING A WHITE COAT CEREMONY
The new batches of students were initiated into the Healthcare Profession by the Chief Guest H. E. Humaid Mohammad Obeid Al Qattami, Honourable Minister of Health, UAE along with founder President Thumbay Moideen at Gulf Medical College. GMC was also Honored by the presence of Dr. Robert L. Thurer, MD – Chief Academic Officer, Associate Professor of Surgery – Harvard Medical School Dubai Center during a ceremony held at GMC on Wednesday 13th September 2006 at 7:00 pm. The hononourable Minister of Health handed over the White Coats, thus initiating them into the profession. The Dean of GMC Prof. S Rangaswami Welcomed the guest and the new batch of students which was followed by the White Coat Conferral & Administration of GMC Students pledge.
The White Coat Ceremony, a highlight of the orientation process, signifies the students dedication to healthcare profession and its responsibilities and obligations. New students are personally cloaked in their first white coats by College faculty, and then recite the pledge. They assume the mantle of the medical profession in a meaningful ritual before an audience of mentors, family and friends. The donning of coats by the students acknowledges their initiation into the world of healthcare. The ceremony is designed to impress upon the first-year students, the significance and symbolism of the white coat.
The management of Gulf Medical College is striving hard to provide quality medical education to all the students and expose the students of GMC to an international level through their summer training program. The program will be open to all the students of GMC. The conference secretariat at GMC is in the forefront of organizing CME and CPD programs for the benefit of students, faculty and surrounding practicing doctors and has lined up several interesting programs for this year.
Gulf Medical College is recognized and approved as an institution for higher education by the Ministry of Education, UAE. GMC is listed in World Directory of Medical Schools by WHO and also listed in IMED under the auspices of FAIMER.
GMC is offering M.B.B.S degree programs with a capacity for 60 students & B.P.T Programs with a capacity for 25 students with limited seats for both boys and girls of all nationalities. It has an international faculty and a student cohort from 39 nations. Training at the college is on par with any of the best and well-established medical colleges in the world.
