GMC Hospital and College of Dentistry, GMU conducted Free dental camp for students

Gulf Medical University College of Dentistry & GMC Hospital, Ajman, organized a Free dental check up and awareness camp at Al Ameer English School, Ajman. The camp was inaugurated by Mr S.J. Jacob, the Principal of the school.

1200 school students availed benefits of the comprehensive dental check-up extended by a team of senior specialist dental surgeons headed by Dr Sameer Kumar, Head of Dental Department, GMC Hospital .

The camp was initiated with the dental awareness talk, educating students about common dental ailments, especially stressing on tooth decay and gum diseases. Demonstration of proper brushing and flossing technique was done for all the students.

Eating patterns and food choices among children and teens are important factors that affect how quickly youngsters may develop tooth decay, was also highlighted by the doctors.


The doctors informed that when bacteria (plaque) come into contact with sugar in the mouth, acid is produced, which attacks the teeth for 20 minutes or more. This can eventually result in tooth decay. The doctors added that to help control the amount of sugar oneconsumes, one must read food labels and choose foods and beverages that are low in added sugars. Added sugars often are present in soft drinks, candy, cookies and pastries.

Free check up was done by a team of senior specialist dental surgeons and para-medical staff .Every student wasgiven a ‘Patient Card’, a report summary of the diagnosed problem and the recommended treatment plan.


Students got ample opportunity tointeract with the dental surgeons and added to their knowledge concerning oral diseases.


Mr Abu Saleh Vice Principal , of the school, thanked the doctors and GMC Hospital for rendering selfless service to the school.The Dental Awareness camp was successfully organized.
