5th Annual Dental Conference on Excellence in Oral and Dental health hosted by the College of Dentistry, GMU.

The College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University (GMU) is one of the leading dental schools in the region imparting high quality education.

The Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program aims to promote dental education and enhance dental practice through a broad spectrum of knowledge, simulations and clinical practice. It aims to prepare a generation of general dental practitioners with clinical competency, possessing the knowledge, skills, and values to begin the practice of general dentistry serving UAE citizens or at any other geographic location of their choice. The College of Dentistry has Advanced Simulation Labs for training the dental students. Recently, the College of Dentistry, GMU has received approval from the Commission for Academic Accreditation, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAE  for increase of seats from the present 35 to 50 seats starting the academic year 2013. The College is also planning to start Masters Programs in Dentistry.

GMC Hospital and Dental Specialty Centers in Ajman and Sharjah offer dental services to patients from more than 175 countries. Apart from the existing 55 dental operatories, the proposed GMC Multi-Speciality Hospital in Al Jurf, Ajman will be adding 30 dental chairs that will fulfill the needs for training in the new graduate programs being developed by the College of Dentistry.

Conference on Excellence in Oral and Dental Health held at GMU:

In continuation of its commitment to excellence, GMU held a  brief  ceremony to felicitate leading dentists in the region for their contribution to the field of dentistry and their commitment and invaluable services rendered to the society in front of an august gathering of 175 delegates attending the 5th Annual Dental Conference on Excellence in Oral and Dental Health hosted by the College of Dentistry. The conference was also attended by officials from the Ministry of Health, Dubai Health Authority and Emirates Dental Society.

Provost Prof. Gita Ashok Raj presented mementos to all the invited speakers. “This is a token in appreciation of their efforts to compile and present current practices in dentistry necessary for continuous professional development,” said Prof. Gita Ashok Raj.

 Leading Dental Specialists like Dr. Aisha Sultan Al Suwaidi, General Director of Dental Services, Ministry of Health, UAE, Dr. Ninette Banday, Head of Dental Services at SEHA –Ambulatory Healthcare Services Co., Dr. Ramesh Bulbule leading Prosthodontist from Dubai, Dr. Mohamed S. Samaha, Director of Dental Services, MoH-Ajman, Dr. Shaika Mukkassa, Director of Dental Services, MoH Fujairah, Dr. Salem Hassan Abu Fanas, Dean, College of Dentistry-Ajman University, Dr. Mohamed Mustahsen Rehman, Dean, College of Dentistry-RAK University, Prof. David Wray, Dean-Dubai School of Dental Medicine and Prof. Abdel Wahab El Hamy, a senior practitioner from Dubai were honored on the occasion.

The conference covered topics from some main branches of dentistry like Oral & maxillofacial surgery, Dental Implants, Endodontics, Oral Radiology and other related topics.

 The conference was accredited by the Ministry of Health for 11 CME Hrs and was organized by the College of Dentistry, as part of its professional development programs.
