A man of vision and dynamism, with a determination to succeed, Thumbay Moideen is recognized in India and beyond, for the various achievements to his credit.
The roots lie in Mangalore, Karnataka from where Mr. Moideen hails. Born on 23rd March 1957 he is a third generation entrepreneur belonging to a well-known business family. Taking to business at the tender age of 21 years, he demonstrated his business acumen from the very start. The large business house established by his father Mr. Ahamed Hajee Mohiudeen way back in 1957 soon passed on to him. His father's & grand father Mr. Yenepoya Moideen Kunhi's inspiration enabled him to grow and expand the business, taking it to new heights within a few years.
In 1998, Mr.Moideen established the THUMBAY Group U.A.E. Under his dynamic leadership it went on to achieve tremendous growth, and in the process, provided a means of livelihood to hundreds of families over the last decade. The Thumbay Group has since ventured into fields like timber, real estate, education, information technology, medical education and the latest - a chain of medical centres and pharmacies in and around U.A.E. With this venture, Mr. Moideen is well on his way to realizing his mission to be a leader in the field of healthcare by 2012.
No wonder, Mr. Moideen has featured among the top 100 most influential Indians in the Middle East in a 2010 survey undertaken by The Arabian Business Magazine, & has appeared as cover story in the International Indian Magazine in April 2011 issue.
The pioneering spirit of Mr. Moideen and his conviction, courage and confidence soon led to the setting up of UAE's first private medical college in U.A.E, Gulf Medical College, Ajman. This was followed by GMC Hospital & Research Centre, Gulf Medical Centre & GMC Pharmacy in Dubai. The Thumbay Group also owns and runs the Body and Soul Health Clubs - an International Chain of health clubs, and Blends and Brews Coffee Shop - an International Chain of Coffee Shoppes.
Gulf Medical University (GMU) is currently recognized as an institution of higher education by the Ministry of Education, UAE. Graduation certificates of all programsof GMU attested by the Ministry of Higher Education are accepted throughout the world. In fact, graduates of this University are eligible to apply for USMLE & PLAB Examinations besides post graduation and specialization studies around the globe.
GMU offers the M.B.B.S. - Bachelor of Medicine, B.P.T. - Bachelor of Physiotherapy, D.M.D. - Doctor of Dental Medicine, Pharm.D - Doctorate of Pharmacy and several other programs, attracting students from more than 50 nationalities. It is the only medical university in the region which offers admissions to both male and female genders of all nationalities. The University has infrastructure and facilities which are on par with some of the established medical schools of the world.
The Summer Training Program, a special feature of GMU, is a unique concept that enables students to get international clinical exposure. Every year, our clinical students participate in clinical training in leading universities and hospitals in several countries, including USA, UK, Germany, India, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
The Thumbay Group also runs the GMC Hospital and Research Centre. This 250-bed facility is the first private teaching hospital in UAE. The hospital has qualified medical and paramedical staff offering specialized services. Its state-of-the-art facilities includes a Women's Health Centre, Hi-Tech Laboratory, and ultra modern ICU & CCU. This is besides a pharmacy, a modern radiology department, on-call doctor service and a 24-hour Emergency. The Group has also established a hospital in Fujairah and a medical centre in Dubai. The group will open new hospitals in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman in 2011.
The Thumbay Group's first African hospital venture took off in Blantyre, Malawi in April 2010.
As a result, GMC Hospitals in U.A.E is now one of the largest healthcare providers in the private healthcare sector offering quality and affordable care to all sections of society.

He enjoys tremendous respect from all sections of society, evident from the fact that he is invited by various associations and organizations to be on their board as an active office bearer or in an advisory capacity. |

- A grand ceremony was held recently at the House of Lords, U.K. withvarious well known personalities attending the Award Ceremony. Lord Adam Patel of Blackburn handed over the memento and praised the efforts of Mr. Moideen in the fields of Healthcare and Medical Education. The program was organized by the Progressive Muslims Forum United Kingdom and sponsored by AOC International U.K. for "sharing of international good practices in healthcare and education and celebrate achievements of Muslim community".

- 3rd National Conference on Healthcare Leadership 2009, conducted by Rajiv Gandhi University Bangalore, India and Padmashree Group, College of Hospital Administration, Bangalore, India. Title of Talk: Challenges of setting up a private medical university and teaching hospital in a foreign country.
- Healthcare Expansion Congress Middle East conducted on 26th-27th May 2009 at Al Raha Beach Hotel, Abu Dhabi. Established more than 4 years ago, Healthcare Expansion Middle East is the region's definitive conference on healthcare business.

His pragmatic approach to his work resulted in many achievements and accomplishments that not many can match. He currently lives in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.
Thumbay Moideen is married to Mrs. Zora, an accomplished artist in her own right. They are blessed with two sons, Akbar and Akram. |
